The Institute of Theological Zoology e. V. was founded in 2009 and is an affiliated institute of the Philosophical-Theological University of Münster. It works in an interdisciplinary, ecumenical and interreligious manner.

Theological zoology includes not only natural science, in particular behavioural biology and ecological aspects, but also humanities perspectives from theology and ethics.

Since 2017, the Haus Mariengrund conference, education and guest centre and its premises in Münster-Gievenbeck have been a place of work and activity.
