The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)

english: Sustainable Development Goals
german: Weltnachhaltigkeitsziele

No poverty, responsible consumption and production, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities.

All these are goals for a fairer and more sustainable world. A total of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by the United Nations (UN) at the end of 2015 in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 193 member states were involved, including Germany. The 2030 Agenda is a global plan to promote sustainable peace and prosperity and to protect our planet. Since 2016, all countries have been working to convert this shared vision for combating poverty and reducing inequalities into national development plans. The 17 goals, together with their 169 sub-goals, are intended to help solve many of the world's biggest problems, such as eradicating extreme poverty and hunger worldwide or stopping climate change. With this plan for the future, the global community wants to enable people around the world to live in dignity while at the same time preserving the natural foundations of life. Everyone - governments, civil society, business and science - is called upon to contribute to this.

Germany with a concrete roadmap

At the beginning of 2017, the federal government set out in concrete terms how these global sustainability goals are to be implemented in Germany with the German Sustainable Development Strategy. To this end, 63 specific goals were adopted and an updated supplement was presented in autumn 2018. The public was also involved during this process.

Sustainability goals explained clearly

The global sustainability goals are explained intelligible on the German government's website. After a brief overview, the 17 global sustainability goals are presented in individual articles. It also explains why sustainable action affects everyone and what the German government is doing to implement them.
